Five blog posts in a week, I feel so accomplished! This next one is even a wedding from this current year. Woo hoo! One word to describe Kelly and Ryan’s Sprague Lake winter wedding…SNOWY!! Their Estes Park wedding pictures were an absolute blast to capture. Cold? Yes, absolutely! Especially because I forgot to bring a coat. You would think that I would know better since I have lived in Colorado for over 30 years now. Their snowy wedding was most certainly memorable for all in attendance, though 🙂 During the ceremony, the weather was insane and kind of comical. You couldn’t see the mountains at all. And these were some of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen. Kelly and Ryan wanted a Colorado winter wonderland and as you can see, Colorado delivered!
Kelly and Ryan planned a pretty last minute wedding, in less than a month. They traveled in from Ohio, with their closest loved ones. They exchanged their vows beneath umbrellas, heavy with snow. But their hearts were warm, filled with love and joy, and their unwavering smiles shined brightly. Kelly and Ryan were such troopers with the weather, and they were a lot of fun to photograph. After their short and sweet ceremony, we captured a few photos with their frozen guests and then released them to the reception dinner. The newlyweds stuck around with me for awhile longer so we could get some nice variety in their romantic couple portraits. Fortunately, the snow let up almost completely. If you don’t know this popular Colorado saying, you should…”If you don’t like the weather in Colorado, wait five minutes!”. While this is most often the case during the summer, it really fit on this day too. Blizzard one moment, nothing the next! I am very glad we got some mountain views after all for these two, since they came all this way.
The snow lightened up considerably during their bride and groom portraits. Which was great because we still got a beautiful white blanket of snow in their Estes Park wedding pictures, but it wasn’t making it hard to photograph them. While I sometimes like it, heavy snow can be challenging. The camera likes to focus on the snowflakes and also you can’t prevent a snowflake from blocking an eyeball, for example.
