2021 really seemed to be the year of the baby LOL! Maybe because everyone was spending so much time at home during the pandemic. I had more maternity sessions last year than probably three normal years combined. I have had numerous opportunities to work with this wonderful couple over the years. First their winter engagement photos, then their wedding with my photographer friend Katy Marble Photography. Then an extended family session early last year. Rain was in the forecast for Kailey and Leland’s Evergreen Colorado maternity photos, but we decided to go for it. You know what? It did rain (lightly) the majority of the session. You know what else?! We totally embraced it, and we all loved how the images turned out. Very unique indeed and the rain didn’t ruin anyone’s good time!
We did Kailey and Leland’s engagement photos at a park in Evergreen, so they decided to return to Evergreen for maternity portraits as well. We did change it up a bit by going to the Evergreen Lake House instead this time. Due to the rain, we practically had the place to ourselves (which was great)!
Kailey brought four outfits for herself, and then also elected to wear one of the maternity gowns in my client closet. She started in a light blue lace sleeve maternity dress. She looked really amazing, and she was really glowing while awaiting the arrival of precious little Lucas 🙂 We ended up doing a lot of photos in this first dress. Next she wore a boho inspired white dress….very stylish and a cute way to show off that bump! From my collection, she wore a vibrant royal blue maternity dress with strapless top and sheer bottom. It wasn’t exactly warm out, so we moved quickly through these last three outfits.
Some of my favorite shots from this evening were of Kailey alone, toes in the water, jeans unzipped, bare belly showing, embracing the light rain. It seemed so dramatic and serene all in the same moment…love it! The final outfit was just a funny, silly shirt and jeans. Kailey’s shirt said “Don’t eat watermelon seeds…”. Haha, so cute! Leland wore a simple black tee, showing off his new role. It simply said “Dad”. They just wanted a few good professional photos in this outfit. We had used up just about every last ounce of daylight, and decided to call it a day.
This is definitely one of my favorites from Kailey and Leland’s Evergreen Colorado maternity photos. I love Kailey’s sweet laugh, the lovely dress, and soft rain.Â
This is a favorite of Kailey alone. She looks so stunning, calm, and ready to take on this new journey into motherhood! No doubt that not every day will be full of sunshine and rainbows, but she is already embracing the rainy days.
Thanks, as always, Kailey and Leland! It’s been so fun to work with you guys numerous times now. You are a wonderful couple, and I have loved watching you turn into awesome parents too. Lucas is precious…and he is so lucky to have you both! Looking forward to hopefully documenting other important milestones in your lives in the coming years. On the blog next, the family I have photographed the MOST in my photography career. The Laughlin’s Longmont family session at Sandstone Ranch was the 10th time I have photographed them. Wowza…you read that right…10 times!! Have a great week ahead friends.
