I have shot in Grand Lake numerous times, but this was actually my first time capturing a Grand Lake Lodge wedding. It’s a great venue, I am so glad the East Troublesome Fire in 2020 did not destroy it. Because boy was it close! Bonnie and Kyle had a unique, intimate wedding. They kept it small largely as a covid precaution. Kyle’s sister unfortunately got covid shortly before and wasn’t able to come celebrate with them. With such a small guest list it’s such a bummer when a key family member isn’t able to attend. Bonnie actually wasn’t feeling great on her wedding day either, a few days after the wedding we were informed she did in fact test positive for covid as well. Dang! They kept it small to avoid this, and still managed to catch it. Bonnie powered through and it was such a wonderful day!
Some of my favorite parts of Bonnie and Kyle’s wedding day included Bonnie’s jaw-dropping wedding dress. That was the heaviest dress I have ever lifted. It was amazing though! It even has an attached cape. You read that right, and that’s not a veil, but a bridal cape…so stunning! Bonnie’s pearl encrusted shoes were also pretty epic. And her custom engagement ring was unlike anything I have seen. I also really loved all of the time we had for bride and groom photos.
Admittedly that is my favorite part of a wedding day, and they gave us a ton of time. We started on the large deck at Grand Lake Lodge, and also got a few shots with the vintage cars. Then we headed to the heart of Grand Lake and got photos by the water, on the wooden docks. Later we got couple’s photos under the ceremony arbor and by the small barn next to the reception space. So much variety!
Some other parts of their day that I really loved included the ceremony bagpiper. He was such a cool performer for the guests to enjoy. Also, their layered cookie cake was simply beautiful…and I bet delicious! Bonnie and Kyle’s guestbook was one of the most unique I have seen. They had an old phone there with instructions for guests to leave a voicemail with their wedding wishes. How cute is that?! I love that even though their wedding was small, they didn’t go small on the planning or details.

This is definitely one of my favorites from Bonnie and Kyle’s intimate Grand Lake Lodge wedding. Love that sweeping bridal cape and their sweet expressions!

Bonnie’s sorority sisters have a tradition of singing and passing a candle around her on her wedding day. It was a fun, sweet moment from their reception celebration.
